Don't waste good money on a great nail polish but let yourself down with a bad manicure. you need a good foundation to give you a flawless, salon-finished look. Regular, proper manicures can help save you from annoying nail problems like splitting nails or rough textured cuticles. The ten simple stages of the Essie Manicure work through all the steps you need to create a great foundation, using only salon quality products to arrive at that stepped-out-of-a-nail bar look at home.
Why Do We Recommend The Essie Manicure?
The
range of Essie products gives you over 290 shades of top quality nail polish,
specialist nail treatment, salon quality manicure accessories, nourishing nail
treatments and solutions to keep hands beautifully smooth. The beauty industry
is notoriously fickle but Essie has been a leader for over 25 years, constantly
winning beauty industry awards and updating their fashionable shades. We
recommend the Essie manicure to give you a great base to set off their vast
range of cutting-edge colours.
Stage 1 You need to
remove every last bit of nail polish with Essie Purifying Nail Polish Remover.
Then treat each cuticle with soft strokes of Essie's Cuticle Pen.
Stage 2 Smooth Essie
Apricot Cuticle Oil into each cuticle and finger, massaging in gently and delicately
push back each cuticle, nudging them softly with a cuticle pusher. Now use warm
water to rinse your hands and pop them onto a clean towel whilst they're still
wet.
Stage 3 Mix Essie Spa
Sea Mineral Glow with a spatula, to apply to the backs of hands and fingers.
Use a circular, massaging motion and work from the fingertips towards the
wrist. Mop up any excess with damp cloths and rinse your hands in more warm
water. Smooth Essie Spa Kirby Crme into your hands and wrap them in cling film,
to go into heating mittens for ten minutes. Patting the mittens every few
minutes gives you a wonderfully relaxing sensation as the warmth spreads
through your hands.
Stage 4 Take off the
mittens and cling film and massage the Kirby crme into both the hand and lower
arms. Spray the nails with Essie Refreshing Nail Cleanser; when they're dry in
a few minutes, you're ready for the next step.
Stage 5 Excessively
long nails can be clipped in a "nibbling" movement with nail
clippers: this style of clipping helps prevent trauma to the nail. Hang nails
should be clipped with cuticle clippers instead of nail clippers.
Stage 6 File the free
edges with long one-directional strokes of the Essie Crystal File, then seal
the edges with soft bevelling movements. Backwards and forwards movements are
bad news for nails, sometimes causing splitting and peeling.
Stage 7 Use a piece of
lint free cloth to wrap around your good thumb, and dip it in warm water.
You're going to use your thumb to sweep away any particles of oil, dust or
other tiny debris from the cuticles. Then apply a nail preparation solution,
such as Seche Prep. Working from the little finger to the thumb is the easiest
technique here.

Stage 8 You're almost
at the end of all the stages in the Essie manicure: now here's the bit you've
been waiting for. One coat of basecoat needs to go on using the following
technique. Start at the nail centre, by the cuticle, but don't touch the cuticle.
Sweep left, then to the sidewall, then to the centre. Now repeat to the right,
when you're back in the centre, sweep to the free edge. If you move from the
centre to the sidewall 3 to 4 times, it helps to push any trapped air from the
enamel. Our last sweep is going to be backwards from the free edges, to seal
the nail.
Stage 9 You need to
apply 2 coats of Essie nail polish just like you applied the basecoat. Wait
until coat number one is dry to the touch before applying coat number two. If
your enamelling isn't perfect each time, use the Essie Nail Corrector to tidy
it up. Then apply one coat of topcoat with the same technique and wait two
minutes for it to dry.
Stage 10
The final stage for the nails uses one or two drops of Essie Quick-E Drying Drops.
The drops go near the cuticles, then glide downwards along the nail bed. The
finishing touch for the fingertips is re-applying Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil,
massaging it softly into the cuticle region and sidewalls, but do make sure it
doesn't touch the nail polish surface.
